French Jews in Israel are immigrants from France and their children, most of them from families that had earlier left Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco for France. Rising antisemitism and terror attacks in France brought waves of immigration that peaked in 2014-2015 and rose again after October 2023, making them the largest Western immigrant community of the past decade. Netanya's seafront, lined with French cafés and bakeries, is the heart of a community that keeps French at home and Sephardi traditions in its synagogues. Many struggle to have French professional diplomas recognised, and some breadwinners still commute to jobs in France.
